El Alamein Debuts as Egypt’s New Mediterranean Resort at MITT 2026

Cairo, Egypt is expanding its tourism portfolio for the Russian outbound market with the active promotion of El Alamein, a modern Mediterranean resort on the country’s northern coast. The destination offers a new product category for tour operators, combining beach leisure, premium accommodation, and convenient access to Egypt’s key cultural landmarks.

Situated on the Mediterranean Sea, El Alamein is distinguished by its white sand beaches, clear turquoise waters, and contemporary resort infrastructure. Thanks to its coastal climate, summer temperatures are noticeably milder than in Hurghada or Sharm El-Sheikh and typically do not exceed 34°C, making the destination attractive for families with children, senior travellers, and guests seeking a more comfortable summer holiday.

The resort features a growing selection of high end and five star hotels, many of them newly built, offering private beaches, landscaped grounds, multiple dining options, children’s clubs, and wellness facilities. At the same time, El Alamein maintains a calm and uncrowded atmosphere, appealing to travellers looking for a relaxed alternative to mass tourism destinations. The area is increasingly referred to as the “Egyptian Riviera” due to its Mediterranean character and lifestyle appeal.

El Alamein also offers historical and experiential tourism elements. The destination is internationally known as the site of decisive Second World War battles, commemorated at the El Alamein Military Museum and memorial complex. In addition, diving enthusiasts can explore unique Mediterranean dive sites, including Second World War shipwrecks and aircraft located off the coast.

A key competitive advantage for the Russian market is the resort’s strategic geographical location. El Alamein is located approximately 100 km from Alexandria and 260 km from Cairo, enabling convenient excursions to major attractions such as the Pyramids of Giza, the Great Sphinx of Giza, the Egyptian Museum, the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and the Citadel of Qaitbay. Travel times to these landmarks are significantly shorter than from Red Sea resorts.

During the high season, charter flights operate to El Alamein Airport, while year round access is available via Cairo and Alexandria, supported by organised hotel transfers and ground transportation. This creates flexibility for both package tourism and dynamic travel products.

With its combination of Mediterranean beaches, modern hospitality, comfortable climate, historical significance, and proximity to Egypt’s iconic sights, El Alamein is positioned as a new premium resort destination for Russian tour operators and travellers, expanding Egypt’s appeal beyond its traditional resort regions.
