Iraqi tour operator Al rafidain Travel & Tourism will take part in the MITT 2025 international exhibition with a stand of more than 100 m2, which will be one of the largest in the foreign exposition.
Al rafidain Travel & Tourism has been presenting its services in the tourism market for 34 years and has been one of the two active tour operators in the country for many years. The company offers tours that allow you to explore the main attractions of Iraq and get to know the culture of this closed country better. The tour operator's office is located in the city of Najaf, which is believed to have been founded by Caliph Harun al-Rashid in 791.
Iraq's top 5 most scenic attractions and historical sites include the National Museum in Baghdad. In 2019, the country's largest museum was once again suspended due to the rise of an anti-government protest movement and then a pandemic. In 2022, the doors of the oldest museum reopened, with about a third of the exhibits from the total collection being put back on display for visitors. These are mostly relics, artefacts, and studies of the history of ancient Mesopotamian civilisations.
The most important architectural monument of the Islamic world is the Great Mosque in Samarra. Built in the 9th century, it was the main mosque of the Abbasid Caliphate. The architectural heritage of Iraq also includes the Ziggurat of Ur. The multi-stage structure was formerly a place for religious rituals and astronomical studies. The structure consisted of three terraces faced with burnt bricks. They symbolised the power and wealth of the city-states of the Middle Ages. In 1980, the facades of the first tier and the monumental staircase were reconstructed. The upper level, where, presumably, the sanctuary was located, has not been preserved.
You can plunge into the history of one of the most famous civilisations of the East at the ruins of Babylon, near the town of El Hill. In the distant past, Babylon served as the economic and cultural centre of the ancient world. The city was discovered by German archaeologist Robert Koldewey in the late nineteenth century. Artefacts show that Babylon had more than 50 temples on its territory, was famous for its many streets, amazing vineyards and gardens. In addition to the Tower of Babel, the legendary Hanging Gardens of Semiramis - one of the Seven Wonders of the World - were built here. The ruins of the ancient city can now be seen in this place.
Another attraction in the Tigris-Euphrates Valley is the Abbasid fortress (Uhaydir), built in the 8th century AD. The location is famous for its impressive main hall, mosque and courtyards once decorated with mosaics. Today, Ukhaydir's fortress walls, corner towers, loopholes, vaults, and mesmerising networks of corridors and rooms attract explorers.
